"The Burden Of Damascus" - Are We About To See a 2,700 Year Old Prophecy Fulfilled?

"The burden of Damascus.  Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap."  Isaiah 17:1

Damascus, Syria - The world's oldest city that has never suffered major destruction

Damascus has never in it's history been made a "ruinous heap", therefore this prophecy still awaits fulfillment.  It has been reported in media circles this week that the U.S./NATO/E.U. plan for dealing with Iran is to first take out Syrian leader Bashar Assad.  The presence of Russian warships and advisors on site in Syria has slowed down this particular plan, but it is still in place.  The powers that be believe that by removing Syria, they greatly weaken Iran, essentially isolating Iran among hostile states, and cutting off a significant Iranian supply line.

NATO tried to establish a "no-fly zone" over Syria, but the Russians have heavily resisted this idea.  As the map below reveals, Syria is surrounded by nations that are not friendly to her, and Damascus is in the crossfire of possible strikes from Iran launched toward Northern Israel.  I would not be surprised to see this ancient prophecy fulfilled soon, possibly even this year.  The message:  (1)The Antichrist will arrive soon, so Christians should be ready to suffer.  (2)Jesus Christ is returning soon, so be ready.  (3)This is not a good time to live in Syria, especially Damascus.

"And when these things begin to come to pass, look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh."  Luke 21:28
