Chuck Missler and Bob Cornuke Answer Questions Regarding the Journeys and Current Location of the Ark of the Covenant

Fascinating questions answered here like where does the Ark actually disappear in the Bible and why?  Who has the Ark now?  Where was the Ark during the time of Jesus visitation?  And much more interesting Ark stuff...well worth the listen...

Who Were the Magi?

By Chuck Missler

Each year, as we approach the holiday season, our preparations for Christmas include revisiting the events surrounding the birth of Our Lord. Bethlehem, (1) the shepherds, and the angels are familiar to us all. But not much is generally known about the mysterious "Magi" who came to worship the infant Jesus. The following background may be helpful to stimulate conversations around the fireplace as our thoughts turn to this incredible event from which we measure our very calendar.

Traditions

Most of what we associate with the "Magi" is from early church traditions. Most have assumed there were three of them, since they brought three specific gifts (but the Biblical text doesn't number them). They are called "Magi" from the Latinized form of the Greek word magoi, transliterated from the Persian, for a select sect of priests. (Our word "magic" comes from the same root.)

As the years passed, the traditions became increasingly embellished. By the 3rd century they were viewed as kings. By the 6th century they had names: Bithisarea, Melichior, and Gathaspa. Some even associated them with Shem, Ham and Japheth--the three sons of Noah--and thus with Asia, Africa, and Europe. A 141h century Armenian tradition identifies them as Balthasar, King of Arabia; Melchior, King of Persia; and Gasper, King of India.

(Relics attributed to them emerged in the 4th century and were transferred from Constantinople to Milan in the 5th century, and then to Cologne in 1162 where they remain enshrined.)
These are interesting traditions, but what do we really know about them?

Rembrandt: The Adoration of the Magi

The Priesthood of the Medes

.The ancient Magi were a hereditary priesthood of the Medes (known today as the Kurds) credited with profound and extraordinary religious knowledge. After some Magi, who had been attached to the Median court, proved to be expert in the interpretation of dreams, Darius the Great established them over the state religion of Persia. (2) (Contrary to popular belief, the Magi were not originally followers of Zoroaster. (3) That all came later.)

It was in this dual capacity, whereby civil and political counsel was invested with religious authority, that the Magi became the supreme priestly caste of the Persian empire and continued to be prominent during the subsequent Seleucid, Parthian, and Sasanian periods. (4)

The Role of Daniel

One of the titles given to Daniel was Rab-mag, the Chief of the Magi. (5) His unusual career included being a principal administrator in two world empires--the Babylonian and the subsequent Persian Empire. When Darius appointed him, a Jew, over the previously hereditary Median priesthood, the resulting repercussions led to the plots involving the ordeal of the lion's den. (6)

Daniel apparently entrusted a Messianic vision (to be announced in due time by a "star") to a secret sect of the Magi for its eventual fulfillment. But first let's review some historical background.

Political Background

Since the days of Daniel, the fortunes of both the Persian and the Jewish nation had been closely intertwined. Both nations had, in their turn, fallen under Seleucid domination in the wake of Alexander's conquests. Subsequently, both had regained their independence: the Jews under Maccabean leadership, and the Persians as the dominating ruling group within the Parthian Empire.
It was at this time that the Magi, in their dual priestly and governmental office, composed the upper house of the Council of the Megistanes (from which we get the term "magistrates"), whose duties included the absolute choice and election of the king of the realm.

It was, therefore, a group of Persian--Parthian "king makers" who entered Jerusalem in the latter days of the reign of Herod. Herod's reaction was understandably one of fear when one considers the background of Roman-Parthian rivalry that prevailed during his lifetime.

Rome on the Rise

Pompey, the first Roman conqueror of Jerusalem in 63 B.C., had attacked the Armenian outpost of Parthia. In 55 B.C. Crassus led Roman legions in sacking Jerusalem and in a subsequent attack on Parthia proper. The Romans were decisively defeated at the battle of Carrhae with the loss of 30,000 troops, including their commander. The Parthians counterattacked with a token invasion of Armenia, Syria, and Palestine.

Nominal Roman rule was reestablished under Antipater, the father of Herod, who, in his turn, retreated before another Parthian invasion in 40 B.C.

Mark Antony reestablished Roman sovereignty in 37 B.C. and, like Crassus before him, Also embarked on a similarly ill-fated Parthian expedition. His disastrous retreat was followed by another wave of invading Parthians, which swept all Roman opposition completely out of Palestine (including Herod himself, who fled to Alexandria and then to Rome).

With Parthian collaboration, Jewish sovereignty was restored, and Jerusalem was fortified with a Jewish garrison.

Herod, by this time, had secured from Augustus Caesar the title of "King of the Jews." However, it was not for three years, including a five months' siege by Roman troops, that Herod was able to occupy his own capital city! Herod had thus gained the throne of a rebellious buffer state which was situated between two mighty contending empires. At any time his own subjects might conspire in bringing the Parthians to their aid. At the time of the birth of Christ, Herod may have been close to his final illness. Augustus was also aged, and Rome, since the retirement of Tiberius, was without an experienced military commander. Pro-Parthian Armenia was fomenting revolt against Rome (which was successfully accomplished within two years.)

The Tensions in Parthia

The time was ripe for another Parthian invasion of the buffer provinces, except for the fact that Parthia itself was racked by internal dissension. Phraates IV, the unpopular and aging king, had once been deposed and it was not improbable that the Persian Magi were already involved in the political maneuvering requisite to choosing his successor. It was conceivable that the Magi might be taking advantage of the king's lack of Popularity to further their own interests with the establishment of a new dynasty, which could have been implemented if a sufficiently strong contender could be found.
At this time it was entirely conceivable that the Messianic prophecies of the Old Testament, culminating in the writings of Daniel, one of their own Magians, was of profound motivating significance. The promise of a divinely imposed world dominion at the hands of a Jewish monarch might be more than acceptable to them. (Their own Persian and Medo-Persian history was studded with Jewish nobles, ministers, and counselors; and in the great Achaemenid days, some of the kings themselves were of Jewish blood.)

The Entourage to Jerusalem

In Jerusalem, the sudden appearance of the Magi, probably traveling in force with all imaginable oriental pomp and accompanied by an adequate cavalry escort to insure their safe penetration of Roman territory, certainly alarmed Herod and the populace of Jerusalem.

It would seem as if these Magi were attempting to perpetrate a border incident which could bring swift reprisal from Parthian armies. Their request of Herod regarding the one who "has been born King of the Jews" (7) was a calculated insult to him, a non--Jew (8) who had contrived and bribed his way into that office.

Consulting his scribes, Herod discovered from the prophecies in the Tanach (the Old Testament) that the Promised One, the Messiah, would be born in Bethlehem. (9) Hiding his concern and expressing sincere interest, Herod requested them to keep him informed.

After finding the babe and presenting their prophetic gifts, the Magi "being warned in a dream" (a form of communication most acceptable to them) departed to their own country, ignoring Herod's request. (Within two years Phraataces, the parricide son of Phraates IV, was duly installed by the Magi as the new ruler of Parthia.)

Daniel's Messianic Role

Living six centuries before the birth of Christ, Daniel certainly received an incredible number of Messianic prophecies. In addition to several overviews of all of Gentile world history, (10) the Angel Gabriel told him the precise day that Jesus would present Himself as King to Jerusalem."

It is interesting that Daniel's founding of a secret sect of the Magi also had a role in having these prominent Gentiles present gifts at the birth of the Jewish Messiah.

The Christmas Gifts

The gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh were also prophetic, speaking of our Lord's offices of king, priest, and savior. Gold speaks of His kingship; frankincense was a spice used in the priestly duties; and myrrh was an embalming ointment anticipating His death.

In the Millennium, He will also receive the gifts of gold and frankincense;" but no myrrh: His death was once and for all.

What gifts are YOU going to give Him this year? Discuss it with Him.

Issachar Insight - Chuck Missler and Barry Setterfield Discuss Zero Point Energy and the Speed of Light Slowing Down

Interesting science facts that are rarely discussed in the media or scientific journals.  Barry Setterfield was not the first scientist to discuss the fact that the speed of light was not a constant, but actually slowing down.  However his relentless publishing and pressing the subject into the public eye makes him the most noticeable name on this subject.  ZPE is a form of what the ancients knew as aether, or the fifth element.  Fascinating stuff...

Was Solomon's Temple Actually Located South of todays "Temple Mount"? Have We Been Looking in the Wrong Location?

I had other articles set to go tonight, but this is a stunning development both in our understanding of biblical history and prophecy, as well as the actual locations of biblical events, both Old and New Testament.  Of the people I have learned from and read over the years, none is more respected than Chuck Missler.  The other adventurer here, Bob Cornuke, won me over that the true location of Mt. Sinai is actually on the Arabian peninsula, across the Red Sea from the traditional site in Egypt.  I've climbed the traditional site in Egypt and Cornuke is correct, it simply doesn't fit the description in the Bible.

If they are right, IF they are right, this is a gamechanger for our understanding of prophetic events.  This means the third Temple could be built at almost any time, without concern for Islamic protests related to the proximity of the Dome of the Rock.  It's a little long, but well worth the time...fascinating stuff!

Chuck Missler and Ron Matsen explore the answers to your questions. With special guest speaker Bob Cornuke. This session was broadcast LIVE on the 27th of August, from the Briefing Room at the River Lodge in Reporoa, New Zealand.

Old Hatreds and New Borders - The Fracturing of the Middle East at the End of the Age

This is courtesy of Koinonia House, home of some of the best research anywhere.  I should point out that the last place you would expect a group of radical Muslims insisting on Sharia Law and using bullets and bombs to make their point would be among the Sunni Muslims.  They are best know as the largest and most moderate (in spiritual and political views) of all Muslims.  Clearly a small group, well armed and supported is being supported by some government for the fracturing of the Middle East.  Which government?  Likely the one where a certain group (CIA) gets away with murder on a daily basis.

With the recent events in Iraq and the continuing strife within Syria, it would seem a good opportunity to remind ourselves of the true nature and causes of conflict in the Middle East.
Our media still, as a whole, seeks to convince us that this is a disagreement between several nation-states. Maybe this viewpoint would be of value if we were being convinced that peace is actually possible. The truth, though, supports the position that this conflict is a way of life that has been going on for over 1300 years.

Others Bring Order?

After the fall of the Turkish Ottoman Empire in 1922, The European nations (who comprised the world’s military powers at the time), attempting to inspire stability in the region, gathered together in secret and forcibly drew up the borders of what we know today as the Middle East nations.
These borders have existed on our maps since then and have been enforced mostly by autocratic rule of the strong. Today, these artificial, imposed borders are becoming blurred and, in some cases, dissolving before our eyes.

The Root Cause

Upon the death of Mohammed, the warrior-founder of Islam, in 632 a.d., there came a schism within the tribes he had consolidated—over a disagreement in the method of choosing a successor.
Within Islam, the two main dominant groups became blood enemies, the Sunnis and Shiites. This feud has continued until present times. The Sunnis presently control Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan. The Shiites rule Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Lebanon and Syria.

These two tribes have been in a war, very brutal at times, for over 1300 years. The artificial borders created by outsiders have done nothing to bring reconciliation between them. When they have not been trying to displace Israel from the Middle East, they have been killing each other.

It has always been a challenge, no matter whether Sunni or Shiite controlled, for any mid-eastern country to maintain social peace and cooperation. This is why the various governments are all dictatorial. Only physical might could maintain any semblance of peace.

This has never been a struggle between countries. This has been a blood-feud between warring tribes that historically hate each other.

Somehow the media-inspired perspective fed to us has never felt quite rational. Oftentimes it just didn’t make sense. This is because what was happening between tribes, that often crossed geopolitical borders, was being explained as interaction between normal countries, with defined borders, and common disagreements.

Now, again, the artificially imposed borders are all but non-existent.

A New Middle East?

Iraq is currently a Shiite-controlled country, supported by other Shiite regimes, most prominently Iran. The Sunni resistance in Iraq, without U.S. forces to impede them any longer, have taken control of many of the largest cities and are presently threatening to take the capital, Baghdad. U.S. troops and war ships are positioned off the coast as the U.S. Embassy—with its extensive diplomatic personnel—is being evacuated. Iraqi Shiite clerics have put out a call for the “faithful” to rally to the support of the governing regime. The general population is taking up arms and the conflict is escalating by the hour.

Now the border between Iraq and its neighbor Syria, in which there is a Sunni uprising also, has all but disappeared. Two groups, known as The Islamic State of Iraq and The Levant, want to establish a Sharia-ruled state bridging both countries, in effect uniting a Sunni-dominated region across the center of the Middle East.

If this occurs, it could lead to other regional territories being established. The tribal conflicts, and the affiliations that inspire them, are threatening to redraw borders all across the whole Middle East.
The Kurds, another tribe, situated in northern Iraq and northeastern Syria, are seizing their opportunity and seeking to establish their own separate homeland. The Sunnis have consolidated a swath of land across the heartland of the Middle East and the Shiites are claiming everything that is left.

The borders that were established naively by the European outsiders are becoming less and less geopolitically important. Of course, all along these tribal borders there is constant conflict in the transitional territories.

This is the rest of the world’s worst nightmare. Not understanding the true nature of these conflicts, the outsiders have tried to use their own geopolitical solutions to quell tribal conflicts with the hope of bringing stability to this resource-rich area. Clearly, historically and culturally, their attempts have been ill-conceived and ineffective from the beginning.

Is The Worst Yet To Come?

The U.S. is being used as a pawn between these tribal groups. It is being forced into relationships with religious entities that are clearly not acting in our best interests. Secretary of State John Kerry is now saying the U.S. will be working with Iran to resolve the issues in Iraq.

True, Iraq and Iran are both of the same tribal affiliation but the U.S. is presently in very delicate negotiations with Iran over their nuclear program. In an area that has historically been known as the birthplace of haggling and negotiations, this endangers any leverage we might have to prevent the next great escalation of conflict in this area: nuclear weapons.

We have always been fearful that if Iran acquired nuclear weapons, they would use them either against Israel or the U.S. But for 1300 years these tribes have been looking for a weapons solution to their blood-feud problems. We are now, possibly, on the edge of an out-of-control escalation of chaos and conflict within the region.

Events are transpiring at break-neck speeds. This gives little time for a measured and well thought out response to any action. Within this environment resides the opportunity of a conflict that no one has intended and no one can avoid.

Celebrating The Birth

by Dr. Chuck Missler

Each year at Christmas we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, which should remind us that the entire Western World reckons its calendar from the birth of the One who changed the world more than any other before or since.
There is another aspect to keep in mind this Christmas season. As we recall the prophecy in Micah that prescribes that the Messiah was to be born in Bethlehem, notice the entire verse:
But thou, Bethlehem ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
— Micah 5:2

Also, as we recall that other familiar prophecy in Isaiah, note again the whole verse:
For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the Throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever.
— Isaiah 9:6–7
The “Throne of David” is not just an Old Testament concept. Remember the Angel Gabriel’s promise to Mary:
And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
— Luke 1:31–33
But did Jesus ever actually sit on David’s throne? He couldn’t have. It didn’t exist at that time. Jeconaiah was the last of David’s line to sit on the throne. (Remember, the blood curse on his line.) Herod, appointed by the Romans, was an Edomite (“Idumean”). He wasn’t even Jewish.
At the moment, Jesus is sitting on His Father’s Throne. The question is, will He ever sit on David’s throne? Will the promise that Gabriel announced to Mary also be fulfilled? Of course. (And it may be sooner than we think.)

Keeping Christ in Christmas

Christians today tend to fight the ongoing secularization of their holidays. Some have rejected anything to do with them, saying they are not Biblically ordained. Others have tried to go back to keeping the Jewish feasts instead. It should be pointed out that the New Testament doesn’t really ordain anything other than the Lord’s Supper. But it does not prohibit it either, and under grace Christians are free to honor different days if they wish.
Those families who want to keep Christ as the center of Christmas may find it easier to do by understanding the various symbols that have been used to celebrate Christ’s birth through the ages and using them to retain the uniqueness inherent in the mystery of the incarnation: the birth of the Son of God. For instance, at Christmas we remember the gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh presented by the Magi. These prophetic gifts celebrated his deity, priesthood, and death. When He returns to establish His Kingdom, He will be presented only with gold and frankincense. There will be no myrrh: His death is now behind Him.
Let’s make this season a real celebration. What are you giving Him this Christmas? Is there something in your life He would like to see you part with?

Mark of the Beast = In The Name Of Allah in Revelation 13? Dr. Chuck Missler

Some very interesting connection brought out here by Dr. Missler concerning the Mark of the Beast (the 666) and Islam.  This makes us think of the coming "Maitreya", the savior of all religions, who is believed to be on Earth now, awaiting his time to go forward from god (Satan) for the implementation of his kingdom...which won't last long...also some interesting connections to prophecy and Islam.
