Comet ISON Mysteries Continue | Space News

Yet another post on the size (maybe) of ISON.  Of interest here are the electric effects and how that creates the large comas and tails on the more spectacular comets.  The overall theory makes a lot more sense than the "dirty snowball" theory of comets that melt as they get closer to the Sun.  Hard to explain why comets are showing brighter in the outer solar system than near the Sun.

In November 2013, skywatchers around the world eagerly awaited the approach of Comet ISON. Dubbed the "Comet of the Century" by several in the media, some astronomers had predicted a stupendous cometary display as Comet ISON approached its perihelion. The comet was also the subject of countless bizarre speculations. However, despite the heightened expectations, ISON ultimately proved to be somewhat of a fizzle.
