The overly simplistic ideal of "once saved, always saved", strips away such eternal truths like judgment for our sins, the authority and omnipotence of God, and that true faith reveals itself in obedience. Paul warned believers to "work out your salvation with fear and trembling" (Philippians 2:12). The point is to rejoice and grace and God's offer of salvation, but never to take it for granted. Charles Spurgeon once said that "show me a man with an unchanged life, and I'll show you a man with an unchanged heart". If you truly believe, you will bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Examine yourself. Trust me, it's a very good thing, and serves as a constant reminder that we are saved because God is good, not because we are good. Heaven forbid! Praise God our Lord and Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord!
